Montepulciano, the famous city of Tuscany is perched on the top of a hill, south of the region, not far from Siena. Thanks to its position, Montepulciano enjoys a breathtaking view over the Val d’Orcia and the Val di Chiana, and the historic center is rich in churches, palaces and medieval squares.
There are four main species that can be found in the woods of Montepulciano. Certainly the white truffle is the most prized, with an unmistakable appearance and fragrance, it has a yellow and smooth rind, and inside it has a light pulp. During the truffle hunts it is easier to find the black truffle, with a smooth yellow skin but the black interior, and a delicate smell. Even more common among the findings of truffle research are the Marzuolo or Bianchetto and the summer truffle, called Scorzone with black peel and yellowish pulp.

Thanks to the guidance of a truffle hunter and his trained dog, you will be accompanied along the paths of the woods, introducing the practice of truffle hunting.
Truffle hunting takes time and patience, but when you least expect it you will see the dog, begin to wag their tails and smell enthusiastically near the roots of a tree.
Meeting with the truffle hunter will start your truffle hunting experience in Montepulciano. You will be given a pair of boots to walk in the woods.
During your walk in the woods, accompanied by the truffle hunter and his trained dog, you can start looking for truffles. During the adventure in Tuscany, your guide will inform you about how to look for truffles, in which seasons it is possible to find the white truffle and how to eat it.
When the dog has identified a precise point it will begin to dig and wag its tail. At That point it will be up to you to start digging to find the prized truffle. Be careful not to damage it, you will have to dig gently and carefully.
Truffle hunting will last about two hours. At the end you can take off your boots and continue your tour of Tuscany, booking a wine tour or a truffle tasting.
