Chianti Countryside is one of the most famous areas in the whole world of Tuscany for the production of the homonymous wine. Really close to Florence, the Chianti area is between the provinces of Florence and Siena, it is unmistakable, due to its breathtaking landscape, hills covered with expanses of vineyards and olive groves, among which you can see houses and small stone churches.
The activities in Chianti are different, you can discover itineraries by immersing yourself in the green, discovering the medieval villages, visiting the wine museum or discovering the secrets of truffles by participating in a Truffle Hunting Tour experience in Chianti. Siena is a land of truffles, a delicacy that is magically formed underground, I know a lot of that in ancient times they thought that they originated from lightning, today we know that they are fungi cooperating with the roots of orange tree plants.
The truffle hunting experience in Chianti Land starts in one of the woods of Chianti which we will confirm at the time of booking.
The start time is customizable.
The most famous ones come from the Crete Senesi, a very particular area, made up of gentle clay hills with small woods on the valley floor and magnificent erosion phenomena. There are many species of truffles in nature, but four are enough to have excellent fresh truffles almost all year round.
The most prized is the white truffle (also called trifola), the only one that can weigh half a kilo, characterized by a sharp but pleasant smell, and by a high digestibility so that it is generally eaten raw. In second place is the black truffle, although in Tuscany there is not a strong tradition like in the other regions of central Italy. Other species are appreciated locally due to the lower taste and price, but increasingly appreciated: among these, the truffle marzuolo (or bianchetto) and the summer truffle (or scorzone)
Your Chianti Truffle Hunting starts with the meeting with the truffle hunter and his dog. You will be provided with hunting rubber boots and you can go into the woods. Your expert truffle hunter will give you some information about your outdoor experience.
The trusty dog, being trained, is able to smell truffles a few centimeters in the ground. Truffles are not born anywhere, and it is precisely during the hunt that you will discover which plants you can find.
When the dog has sniffed the truffle, it will begin to dig, you will have to remove the dog to prevent it from ruining the truffle, and then you will be able to dig with great delicacy to be able to extract from the soil that rare pearl which is the truffle.
After about two hours of research with the truffle hunter and the dog, you can return to the starting point to continue your Chianti tour.
